Frequently asked questions

What happens if a project doesn't reach its funding goal?

The project doesn't proceed. Gifts already given are refunded, or, only with the donor's consent given at checkout, redirected to another project. Let's Fund Pittsburgh only hands fully-funded projects to the City for execution — there is no partial funding, and no unfunded commitment is made to a neighborhood.

Does this cost the City any money?

No. Projects are funded entirely by donors. The City's role is limited to executing already-funded work through its existing Department of Public Works and capital-project process — no new taxes, no new city spending, no matching city dollars.

Who picks the projects?

In this phase, projects are admin-curated and pre-vetted by Let's Fund Pittsburgh before they're listed. A public submission process for residents and representatives to nominate projects is a planned future phase.

How many projects can my ward have?

Up to three per ward, plus three citywide projects open to donors anywhere in the city.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Let's Fund Pittsburgh's 501(c)(3) status is currently pending. Deductibility depends on the organization's final legal and fiscal structure, and will be clearly stated at the point of donation once that's confirmed.

Is this affiliated with a political campaign?

No. Let's Fund Pittsburgh is an independent civic initiative, not affiliated with any campaign, candidate, or office, and built to outlast any one of them.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, if the project you gave to misses its goal by its deadline. You'll also have the option, at checkout, to consent in advance to redirecting your gift to another project instead of a refund. Full refund policy specifics for other edge cases (e.g. a project is cancelled after funding) will be published on the Transparency page as the organization's policies are finalized.
